About Me
Hi, I’m Maruis Aldridge — writer, healer, and unapologetic spiritual nerd.
From Broken to Brilliant isn’t just my memoir — it’s a love letter to the fractured, forgotten, and fiercely resilient parts of ourselves. I didn’t write this book because I had all the answers. I wrote it because I finally stopped running from the questions.
Born in apartheid-era South Africa, I grew up in a world heavy with silence, shame, and systems designed to keep people small — especially if you were queer, sensitive, or just a little too sparkly for the room. I was all three. Layer by layer, I was taught to disappear — through fear, trauma, and the rigid masculinity of a world that didn’t know what to do with softness.
But something in me refused to go quiet.
This book is the story of how I remembered who I was. Through therapy, dance, energy healing, a kundalini awakening (accidental, of course), and more spiritual breadcrumbs than I can count, I began piecing myself back together. Not into who I was “before the pain,” but into someone new — someone real.
Today, I’m a certified SRT (Spiritual Response Therapy) practitioner, a twin flame to some remarkable souls, and a fierce advocate for healing that goes beyond surface-level affirmations. My journey has taken me from trauma to transformation, from South Africa to Sussex, from selfloathing to self-love — and every messy, miraculous step in between.
This space — this book, this site — is for anyone who’s ever felt broken. Because I believe with my whole heart: we are not here to be perfect. We are here to remember our brilliance.
And if you’re still walking through the dark?
Keep going.
The fireflies are coming.
